SOUTH RWENZORI DIOCESE CELEBRATES 40 YEARS OF EXISTENCE

It was carved from Ruwenzori Diocese on 26th August, 1984 and is now made up of 14 Archdeaconries, 78 parishes, and 600 local congregations.

The Diocese has been served by Three Bishops since its creation with the Bishop Emeritus Zebedee K. Masereka being the First Bishop, Bishop Emeritus Jackson Tembo Nzerebende as the Second Bishop and the current Bishop, The Rt. Rev. Nason Baluku as the Third Bishop.

Retired Bishop Zebedee Kahangwa Masereka served from 1984 to 2003, Retired Bishop Jackson Thembo Nzerebende served from 2003 to 2020 while the incumbent Bishop Nason Baluku was consecrated and enthroned as bishop on December 13, 2020 at St. Paul’s cathedral in Kasese Town.

The Diocesan 40th Anniversary celebrations were held at Kagando School of Nursing and Midwifery in Kisinga Town Council, Bukonzo County East in Kasese District on August 25.

Different dignitaries attended the Diocesan 40th Anniversary celebrations, Thanksgiving and Ground breaking ceremony for the Diocesan Hostel project at Kagando.

The Diocesan 40th Anniversary Celebrations also marked the Official launch of the Construction works for the Diocesan Hostel Project that will be named “SRD Bishop Zebedee Memorial Hostel” that will accommodate about 500 students intending to join Kagando University College a constituent learning center for Uganda Christian University.

At the function, 100 fruit trees were planted as a way of Conserving the environment.

Meanwhile, a Cash contribution of Uganda Shillings 10 million was contributed by Centenary Bank – Uganda.

During the function, a cash collection of Uganda Shilling 129 Million was collected towards the construction of the SRD Bishop Zebedee Memorial Hostel at Kagando. An estimate of Uganda Shillings 10 Billion is required to have the Hostel project completed.
