Lost hope regained as Rt. Rev. Nason Baluku of South Rwenzori Diocese opens up a merchandise shop for Esther Mbambu, 36 years from Maliba sub county in Busongora County North, Kasese district whose hands were brutally amputated by the husband in a domestic brawl.

On March 21, 2025, Esther Mbambu, a mother of three was injured by her husband, Hassan Kadogo in a brawl related to domestic violence in Nyakasojo Lowere Cell in Bulembia Division, Kasese Municipality.
Mbambu who was a vendor at Shauliyako Market in Kasese town was that evening found bleeding profusely near her home before being rushed to Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital where she was referred to Mbarara Referral Hospital for further management.

She is a resident of Kiruli Kyandali village in Maliba Sub County in Busongora County North, Kasese district.

Today July 05, 2025, the Rt. Rev. Nason Baluku accompanied by the Diocesan Secretary, Rev. Can. Nelson Walina and other Diocesan staff members delivered an assortment of general merchandise shop items including a refrigerator (Deep freezer) to Esther Mbambu and subsequently paid her business rent for two years to enable her family meet her needs including feeding and school fees for her children.

Bishop Baluku said that he was saddened by the news and photos that circulated on social media that fateful day. According to him, he could not believe how heartless a section of men has become to an extend of hurting such a helpful and hardworking woman.

The bishop revealed that his office was working round the clock to have her acquire artificial arms that would at least enable her do some of her personal chores including feeding and dressing herself up.

Rev. Can. Nelson Walina the South Rwenzori Diocesan Secretary encouraged Mbambu’s family and the entire community to show her love, be supportive as well as sounding words of encouragement to her so that she would recover from the trauma. Can. Walina says her current state was the most difficult that requires compassionate love.
